He has been the Berliner Philharmoniker's lead clarinetist since March 2011. Ottensamer has received first prizes in clarinet, cello, and piano contests, and he plays as a soloist and chamber musician globally with the Vienna Virtuosi and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
In 2005, he founded the clarinet trio The Clarinotts with his father, Ernst Ottensamer, and older brother Daniel Ottensamer. The group undertakes performance tours in Austria, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the United States, participates in festivals worldwide, and appears on television and radio.
The group also made a CD for Gramola Vienna and Octavia Records in 1999. Andreas Ottensamer signed an exclusive recording deal with Deutsche Grammophon in February 2013. In June 2013, he released his debut CD with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
