Early Life

The artist was born in the town of Rockingham in North Carolina. When he was two, he visited Atlanta, Georgia, with his mother. Nash learned to play the drums and guitar after learning to play the trumpet in elementary school.

Nash’s mother died when he was fifteen in 1992, a tragedy that encouraged him to create music. Because of this tragedy, he gained more of a “soft spot” for women.

That sympathy is further evident when you realize he wrote songs like “Run the World (Girls)” and “Umbrella,” which are both songs about the empowerment of women.

As his career began, he wrote lyrics for many artists and musical groups. In 2001, producer Laney Stewart helped Nash receive a publishing deal after writing “Everything” for an American boy band, “B2K”.

He has also been writing lyrics for songs and albums for numerous artists. He also was affiliated with musical projects with girl group 3LW, Nivea (his wife from 2004-2008), and RNB artist Mya.

In 2007, he wrote “Umbrella,” one of Rihanna’s most popular songs when she performed it, which got nominated for Song of the Year at the 2008 Grammys. He did this all under his stage name, “The-Dream.” He used this nickname when his uncle told him to reach high for his dream.

In his career, he was a mastermind of numerous songs and albums for many famous artists and created music.

With “Def Jam Recordings,” he signed a deal that resulted in him creating his first studio album, “Love/Hate.” Nash, Los Da Mystro (jazz pianist), and Christopher Stewart (Laney Stewart’s brother) have produced and worked on this album featuring Rihanna and Fabolous.

Later in his career, he also made numerous other albums such as “Love vs. Money” in 2009, “Love King” in 2010, “1977”, in 2011, “IV Play” in 2013, Ménage à Trois: Sextape Vol. 1, 2, 3 in 2018, and Sextape 4 in 2020.

Nash also wrote many famous songs for other popular artists, such as “Baby” for Justin Bieber, “Touch My Body” for Mariah Carey, “Right Now” for Rihanna, “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) for Beyoncé, and numerous more songs!
